Active Ethernet FTTx

Active Ethernet, (AON, Active Optical Network) is a FTTP or point-to-multipoint network architecture in which active switches are used to distribute information to multiple locations. With Active Ethernet you can create dynamic sites for adding or dropping traffic into a network. AON

With Active Ethernet, you can have several Gigabytes coming into a distribution switch. You can combine Bi-Directional and WDM-technology with standard dual strand fiber. And the greatest advantage is the distance, where a customer can be connected at a distance of up to 120+ km, increasing the radius from where customers can be picked up.

A customer can be dedicated from 1Mbit up to 1,25gbit in full symmetric transfers. Another advantage is that both copper and fiber can be mixed in the last meter of access to the customer, which means that fiber is therefore not necessary in order to connect new customers and CAPEX saving is possible since a longer ROI on CAT 5,6,7 is achieved.

Serving our customers with several channels of IP-HDTV, VoIP, online gaming and high-speed Internet access sets high demands on bandwidth availability. A full IP-HDTV MPEG4 signal is around 20Mbit, mix that with 2-4 TVs in each home, the possibility to time shift on each TV (or STB) and other services like VoIP, Online Gaming, high-speed Internet (youtube etc).

Sweden Telecom offers its customers both distribution switches and a number of various CPE models for FTTx use. All from basic 10/100Mbit media converters to advanced 1,25Gbit Triple play units.

Three things are important to remember when choosing a FTTx solution designed for IP-TV and Triple/Quadro play services (multimedia): Quality (QoS, VLAN, Diffserv, etc.), Capacity (up to 1,25Gbit) and Security (VLAN, Encryption).

Our FTTx CPE are module-based and can be equipped with:

• WLAN/WiFi
• RJ11 VoIP ports
• CATV
• L2 switching
• L3 routing
• 100Mbit or 1000Mbit WAN port

The module-based formation allows for cost effective installations. For more information or a presentation of our Triple play FTTx system , please contact one of our sales representatives.
