VDSL2 and Triple Play

Carriers, service providers and network owners do not always have the possibility to dig down new infrastructure, such as dark fiber. Protected historical construction in downtown areas is a typical situation where new cables cannot be laid down without the risk of potential damage.

VDSL In the majority of cases, copper may already be in place, and the decision to place a new carrier on top of existing ones is usually considered wasteful and time consuming.

With VDSL2, the traditional copper signals suddenly spring into life. Creating symmetrical speeds of up to 100Mbit/s for HD-IP TV, video conferencing, online gaming and high-speed Internet access now becomes a reality.

Sweden Telecom's VDSL2 modems, and the soon to be launched Residential Gateways, can deliver up to 70Mbit downstream and 30Mbit upstream.

This can be translated into simultaneous streaming of 7 MPEG4 HD-TV or 23 MPEG4 SDTV channels using only one copper pair and one CPE.

Sweden Telecom has chosen to focus on VDSL2 CPE´s and therefore supports more then one chipset manufacture to ensure full compatibility and transparency.

Offering Triple, Quadro play and even Quadro+ services is considered by a great majority as the only way to survive as a service provider in today's high-speed environment and in the future.

IP-TV, VoIP, high-speed Internet access and online gaming are services that put excellence in the network infrastructure. VDSL2 is substantially equipped for this since its solid foundation can be found in its ATM-based QoS functionality.

When the ATM QoS is combined with VDSL2´s high-speed connection, you have a perfect match for delivering true Triple- and Quadro play services.
