VDSL2 and Triple Play
Carriers, service providers and network owners do not always have the possibility to dig down new infrastructure, such as dark fiber. Protected historical construction in downtown areas is a typical situation where new cables cannot be laid down without the risk of potential damage.
In the majority of cases, copper may already be in place, and the decision to place a new carrier on top of existing ones is usually considered wasteful and time consuming.

This can be translated into simultaneous streaming of 7 MPEG4 HD-TV or 23 MPEG4 SDTV channels using only one copper pair and one CPE.
