Sweden Telecom’s series of IPTV set-top boxes is a true carrier product, built from the needs of a carrier and/or service provider. It is designed for decoding standard or high-definition video and audio over broadband IP networks.
IPTV set-top boxes offer new possibilities and revenue-increasing services such as Video-on-demand. With a new & fresh user, experiences from Video-on-demand, HDTV picture and one-push recording, the QoE (Quality of Experience)for customers can be maximized.
Set-Top-Box Sweden Telecom’s series of set-top boxes are based on Linux and an open API is offered for middleware integration.
With a digital IP-based living room, there are several new services that can be offered to customers directly from the TV:
• Video-on-demand
• Subscription / spontaneous VOD – the DVD experience
• PVR (personal video recorder)
• Pause Live TV
• Time-shifted TV
• Targeted and “active” advertisement
• Video Telephony
• Online Games (ex. service provider tournaments)
• Sports betting
• Stock trading
• Internet-based radio (unlimited range of channels)
Sweden Telecom’s set-top boxes support MPEG2 and MPEG4/H.264 multicast streams. It even supports dual IPTV streams (record one and watch another). A way of avoiding dual streams when recording is to offer a recording service with central storage, which means the ISP or carrier will handle storage of the recorded program.
For local recording, an internal or external hard drive can be connected to the set-top box.
Streaming is handled by RTP and MMS with the addition of RTSP for controlling the streams. For management and provisioning SNMP, DHCP and TR-069 are supported.
Content encryption is ensured by using Macrovision or HDCP. Both PAL and NTSC are supported.
By combining IPTV with DVB-T (Terrestrial) and DVB-S (satellite) we can offer a smooth transit to IPTV.
